History

Henk Hokwerda began building wooden sailing yawls, together with his brother, as a hobby in the shed which was part of the farmyard belonging to his parents. They built them in the winter and sold them in the spring to people ‘from the West'. But all that changed in 1964. There was an owner who asked whether he could build a steel ‘mother ship' for his sailing boat. Without hesitation Henk said "yes', went immediately on a welding course and officially founded the shipyard.

Since then, and fed by a love for boatbuilding, the family business has grown enormously and in the meantime we have delivered more than 1000 boats.

Boatbuilding has developed enormously in the last few decades. Boats have become much larger and there is far more emphasis on comfort aboard. De Boarnstream has not only sailed on the waves of this evolution, but has also set its course on listening well to what customers have to say.And that is why each Boarncruiser that we build is not only beautiful, but also meets the customer's expectations to the last.
